Dutch coast guard rescues cargo ship drifting in North Sea storm

A general cargo ship in the North Sea experienced issues end of last week. The cargo ship Valday, which is 82 meters long, found itself drifting in the North Sea.

However, attempts to tow the ship have been successful, as confirmed by the Netherlands Coastguard.

The weather conditions were making the rescue operation difficult, whilst the tugboats were on their way to the cargo ship.

Despite the difficult weather conditions, attempts to tow the ship have been successful.

After several attempts an emergency tug managed to tow the ship towards Rotterdam.

Marine traffic data showed the vessel on Friday to be in the Rotterdam Area. The ship, sailing under the flag of Antigua Barbuda, had crew onboard during the fierce storm.

The Netherlands Coastguard referred to the difficult weather conditions and the multiple attempts to secure the vessel.

Two rescue boats, coast guard helicopters, and two tugs, were also involved – among others – in the rescue operation.
