A Grimaldi Euromed SPA vehicle carrier experienced a fire in the engine room on October 25.
Claims specialist WK Webster said it has received reports that vehicle carrier, Grande Roma experienced a fire in the engine room in a position approximately 21 nautical miles south of Weymouth, UK.
The crew of the Italian-flagged, 2003-built, vehicle carrier was able to bring the fire under control.
According to WK Webster, the vessel was later taken under tow by tug towards Le Havre, France for inspection and, possibly, repairs.
Marine Traffic data showed the ship located in the English Channel on Monday, Oct. 27. The latest available data shows that the vessel is not under command.
The 14483-dwt vehicle carrier started its journey to Jebel Ali in the United Arab Emirates from Antwerp on October 24.
The claims specialist WK Webster warns now that possible general average / salvage and associated recovery issues may arise as a result of this casualty.
