US Navy aircraft carrier and merchant ship collide in Port Said vicinity

The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) was involved in a collision with the merchant vessel Besiktas-M, while operating in the vicinity of Port Said, Egypt, in the Mediterranean Sea, the United States Navy said in its release on February 13.

The incident happened at approximately 11:46 p.m. local time on February 12.

It’s not clear what caused the collision between the USS Harry S. Truman and the vessel Besiktas-M, but the spokesperson said it did not result in any flooding on board the Truman.

“The collision did not endanger the Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) as there are no reports of flooding or injuries,” the Navy statement said.

An investigation is ongoing to determine how they collided, and more information will be released as it becomes available.

The Navy, in its statement, added that the propulsion plants are unaffected and in a safe and stable condition.
