Avikus, HD Hyundai’s specialized autonomous navigation subsidiary, signed an agreement with HMM, South Korea’s national carrier, to supply its AI-based autonomous navigation solution, HiNAS Control, to 40 vessels.
HMM will initially deploy autonomous navigation solutions across 40 vessels in line with the contracts.
The initiative aims to enhance the performance of autonomous navigation technologies using actual operational data, while improving overall fleet competitiveness.
HMM plans to expand the application across its entire fleet subject to the results.
Through the MOU, the three parties – Avikus, HMM, and HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (KSOE) – plan to pursue joint research to further advance AI-based technologies.
HiNAS Control is a “Level 2” autonomous system that performs active vessel control. The system sets optimal routes and navigates without crew intervention.
Under the partnership, Avikus will advance and supply the autonomous navigation solution, HMM will deploy and operate the solution using real-world voyage data, whilst HD KSOE will offer comprehensive technical support for system integration.
