Japan’s trading and investment company Mitsui & Co is investing an undisclosed sum in a ship investment fund managed by Navigare Capital Partners.
The Tokyo-based company has decided to participate, together with its subsidiary Mitsui & Co. Alternative Investments, in a maritime investment fund Maritime Investment Fund III K/S (MIF III), established and operated by Denmark’s Navigare Capital Partners A/S.
“We are proud to invest in a new maritime investment fund targeting $650m in capital focusing on sustainable shipping including ‘green’ vessels and carriers with gross investments of around $1.5 bln,” Mitsui said.
Copenhagen-based Navigare, established in 2017 by A.P. Moller Maersk A/S chairman Robert Maersk Uggla and four well known executives in the shipping industry, has since formed and operated two maritime investment funds, whilst its third fund is expected to invest in maritime assets totalling about $1.5bln (around JPY 230bln).
With a focus on environmentally friendly vessels for stable and sustainable maritime transportation, it plans to invest in offshore vessels, gas carriers, container vessels, car carriers, tankers, and bulk carriers.
“The fund is managed by Navigare Capital Partners A/S, which has had a strong track record in maritime investments, having operated two previous funds with assets totalling c. USD 2 billion,” Mitsui added in a social media post.
