The Finnish government announced few days ago that a Russian vessel is suspected of a territorial violation of Finland’s marine area in the eastern Gulf of Finland.
The Nordic country said last month in a brief government statement that the suspected incident allegedly took place in the afternoon of 26 July 2024.
The Finnish Ministry of Defence said that the Finnish Border Guard is in charge of investigating incidents involving border violations.
“As the highest territorial surveillance authority, the Ministry of Defence directs and coordinates the activities of the territorial surveillance authorities in matters related to territorial surveillance.”
The previous confirmed territorial violation took place on 10 June 2024, when four Russian state aircraft entered Finland’s airspace off the coast of Loviisa and Porvoo, the Finnish government also reports.
The ministry didn’t disclose further details of the incident, but it said that the Border Guard is investigating the incident and will provide further information as the investigation progresses.
