Hellenic-American Shipping Gala: Awards on 27 shipping companies of Greek Interests

The 27 shipping companies of Greek interests listed on U.S. Capital Markets, were awarded yesterday during the first annual Hellenic-American Shipping Gala.

As it is reported by Greek media the event took place at the “Lighthouse” of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center to honor the shipping companies of Greek interests, who are listed on U.S. Capital Markets and celebrate the synergistic cooperation that exists between the two countries.

This is a major international event for Greek shipping that aspires to become an institution. It was organized by the Propeller Club of the United States, Port of Piraeus in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Athens, Greece.

The first Hellenic-American Shipping Gala, recognizes the significant contribution of 27 shipping companies of Greek interests listed on U.S. Capital Markets, showcasing their “exceptional quality, transparency and attractiveness to global financial and service providers,” as the Propeller Club of the United States mentions.

It is said that these companies symbolize the remarkable symbiosis and systematic cooperation that exist between the two nations.

By hosting this prestigious gathering, the gala aims to acknowledge and appreciate the close ties of Greek shipping and the U.S Capital Markets, the friendship and cooperation between Greece and the U.S in shipping.

On the occasion of the first Hellenic-American Shipping Gala, George J. Tsunis, U.S. Ambassador to the Hellenic Republic, and Ηonorary President of the International Propeller Club, Port of Piraeus, noted the importance of the Greek shipping community in strengthening the U.S.-Greece relationship, stating: “We honor the important role that the Greek shipping community plays in U.S.-Greece relations by serving as an essential bridge of friendship between our two nations while sustaining global commerce.”

George J. Tsunis, U.S. Ambassador to the Hellenic Republic, presented his credentials to the President of the Hellenic Republic on May 10, 2022. He was nominated by President Biden and was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on March 10, 2022.

Ambassador Tsunis is the proud Greek-American son of immigrants to the United States, with deep roots in the village of Platanos in the beautiful mountainous region of Nafpaktia. 

Growing up, his parents instilled in him the Hellenic ideals of καλοσύνη (goodness), αγάπη (love), and above all, φιλότιμο (the love of honor).  He learned Greek as his first language. Deeply engaged with the Greek-American community, Ambassador Tsunis was a founding trustee of the Hellenic American Leadership Council, and is a trustee of the Hellenic Initiative among other roles.

On the occasion of the first Hellenic-American Shipping Gala, Costis Frangoulis, President of the Club and Vice President of the International Propeller Club of the United States, emphasized the significance of the event, stating:

“The Propeller Club has always been the direct link between Greek Shipping and the U.S. The presence of Greek shipping companies on U.S. capital markets is important and long-standing. Now the time has come for this cooperation to be highlighted, and this is exactly what we wish to achieve by organizing the Hellenic-American Shipping Gala. We aim to showcase the close friendship between Greece and the United States whilst honoring and celebrating these companies, and the strong synergy they represent.”
