The Tokyo-based NYK Line has sealed an investment deal and a strategic alliance agreement with PT Pertamina International Shipping, a shipping subsidiary of PT Pertamina (Persero), which is an Indonesian state-owned oil and gas giant.

The two companies had reached an agreement in principle on the investment, but not further details on the size of the deal have been revealed. A signing ceremony was held in Tokyo yesterday bringing the two companies together.

Both parties have been collaborating particularly in ship management in the field of energy transportation. Now the alliance, will contribute to Indonesia’s development, by collaborating in a wide range of businesses, including those associated with crude oil, petroleum products, LNG transportation, floating storage and regasification units, and carbon capture and storage.

Akira Kono, senior managing executive officer and chief executive of NYK’s energy division, commented, “NYK will continue to contribute to Indonesia’s development through its energy transportation business.”
