Canada’s giant owner and operator of containerships Seaspan enters new market segment with strategic order of new dual-fuel LNG pure car and truck carrier vessels.

Seaspan has now confirmed that is in partnership with market-leading car carrier, Hyundai Glovis (Glovis) which is part of the Hyundai Motor Group, for the 10,800 ceu dual-fuel LNG, ammonia and methanol ready, pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) newbuild program.

Seaspan negotiated the purchase with Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding in China, whilst the deal includes six firm LNG dual-fuel vessels with options for four more units.

These dual-fuel LNG PCTC vessels will be under long-term time charter upon delivery and will be added to Seaspan’s existing 70-vessel newbuild program, which includes 25 dual-fuel LNG containerships.
