Hong Kong-based shipmanager Anglo-Eastern has announced that Marcel Liedts, a key architect of Anglo-Eastern, has passed away.
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Marcel Liedts, a key architect of Anglo-Eastern and a true legend in the world of ship management,” Anglo-Eastern said in a social media post on LinkedIn.
Marcel joined Anglo-Eastern in the mid-1980s and played an instrumental role in shaping the company as it is today.
A statement in the official Anglo-Eastern LinkedIn page reads, “As a former chief engineer, he brought a deep respect and care for seafarers, ensuring they remained at the heart of everything we do.
“Even after retiring from day-to-day operations, he continued to guide us as a valued board member.
“Marcel was larger than life-witty, sharp, passionate, and generous. He lived life on his own terms, unbound by convention, and his originality left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of working with him.”
As the Anglo-Eastern chairman Peter Cremers once said, “Anglo-Eastern and its globally recognised reputation would not be the same were it not for Marcel.”
“His legacy is immense, and his absence will be felt deeply across the industry. Our thoughts are with Marcel’s family during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Marcel. You will be missed, but your memory will forever live on in the heart of Anglo-Eastern and the maritime community,” the company’s release adds.
