India’s large privately-owned shipping company, Apeejay Shipping Limited, has appointed Sumant Ahlawat as its new chief executive officer, based in Kolkata.
The bulker owner Apeejay Shipping said in a social media post on LinkedIn that Sumant “brings a wealth of expertise in fleet operations and dry dock management.”
With 30 years of maritime experience, including 14 years in ship management, Sumant holds a bachelor’s degree in marine engineering from MERI, Kolkata, and a diploma in shipping management from the Narottam Morarjee Institute of Shipping, Mumbai.
Most recently, he served as operations director at V Ships Asia, overseeing a diverse fleet of 45 vessels.
“As he steps into this pivotal role, we are confident that Sumant’s strategic vision will take Apeejay Shipping to new heights,” reads the company’s post in the social media.
Recently, Apeejay Shipping reported the acquisition of its new 76,620-dwt gearless panamax vessel, APJ Jaouad. This addition is an important move in its expansion strategy, as the shipowner has already welcomed two gearless panamax vessels and one gearless kamsarmax vessel since last September.
