Update: Theodore Tugboat shared in the social media the news that the tugboat Theodore TOO is back afloat. Theodore Tugboat in an updated statement thanked Olous Boag and his crew at Ontario Shipyards for their swift response during the refloat operation, the ASI Group’s dive team for their fast action and unwavering support, the Canadian Coast Guard’s Urgent Response Team, led by Greg Yizhou Yang, and Kevin Cameron of North American Marine.
Theodore TOO, a 65-foot tugboat and a former television star, took on some water while floating alongside a dock in the Ontario Shipyard in Port Weller.
A statement in the official Theodore Tugboat Facebook page reads, “Ahoy friends! I don’t want to alarm you, but I had a mishap yesterday and took on some water while floating alongside a dock in the Ontario Shipyard in Port Weller.”
Theodore Tugboat facebook page says a team of experts are now working on a refloating plan.
“I am resting safely on my belly in the mud and my family in Ontario, has assembled a team of experts to carefully right and refloat me. They are working super hard to have me ship shape in time for the holidays. I will keep you posted on how things go!
“At this time of year, when so many of my friends across the country are struggling, I want you to know how much I love you all and I wish you a heartfelt happy, healthy and toot-ally magical holiday.”
Theodore TOO was built at Snyder’s Shipyard in Dayspring, Nova Scotia and launched on April 19th, 2000, but as the website of Theodore Tugboat says the official birthday (certificate day) is May 5th, 2000.
“I’m a 65-foot tugboat working replica of the original TV character Theodore Tugboat from the beloved CBC series “Theodore Tugboat,” it is mentioned on the website.
After sea trials out of Lunenburg, the vessel made its first port call to Halifax on May 6th, 2000. The ocean-going boat made a 50-city tour down the eastern seaboard to Tampa Bay and back again through the Great Lakes to Chicago.
On the official website of Theodore Tugboat, Theodore TOO is described as “a former television star, a champion for the marine industry, an ambassador of Swim Drink Fish and a Great Lakes Guide.”
In March 2021, Theodore TOO started a new a new career taking on a more active role as a champion for Canada’s marine industry to help build awareness of all the diverse and inclusive employment opportunities, on and off the water. Theodore TOO will travel the Great Lakes and elsewhere to promote the maritime industry on land and sea.
