Spanish national police have seized 100 bales of cocaine weighing around 40 kilos each from a Panamanian-flagged fishing boat 500 nautical miles off the Canary Islands.
After boarding the ship, fifteen people were detained for questioning. As reported by the police, the suspected vessel had its fishing license revoked.
The investigation began in early November when the US Drug Enforcement Administration warned that a criminal organisation was preparing to transfer “a large quantity of cocaine between two ships on the high seas.”
With all the information available, an operation was initiated, to try to locate the fishing boat.
The authorities boarded on November 12 the suspicious vessel, officials said Friday, and arrested the 15 people onboard and seized one hundred bales of cocaine weighing around 40 kilos each.
