Gibson Singapore boosts position in Asia with fresh hires and new MD

London-headquartered shipbroking firm E.A. Gibson Shipbrokers (Gibson) has boosted its position in Asia with fresh faces at its Singapore office (Gibson Singapore) and a renewal in the leadership after the appointment of a new managing director.

The company said the new broking appointments across the gas, clean, and specialised desks, alongside the leadership transition to incoming managing director Owen Bolton, mark a pivotal moment for the business in Singapore.

Owen Bolton, who joined Gibson in 2008, succeeds Nick Ward, who has led the Singapore office since 2012, guiding it through over a decade of growth. Nick Ward will continue in his role as board director and head of dry cargo at Gibson.

In recent years, the office has expanded its scope, launching crude and dirty tanker desks in 2023, now a team of four covering the East market from dirty MR to VLCC, as well as establishing a sale and purchase desk.

Meanwhile, several brokers and operators will join the team over the coming months. Won Sang (WS) Lee will join the VLGC gas desk, Rebecca Huang will rejoin Gibson on the VLGC gas desk, Han Wei Ng will join the LPG and petrochemical shipping desk, and Ole Petter Lenander will join as a LR broker on the clean desk.

On the specialised desk, Melvin Lee will join as broker, whilst Harun Gunawan will join the specialised desk as operator.

“It’s an exciting time to be stepping into this role as we welcome a new wave of talent to the Singapore office,” said Owen Bolton, newly appointed managing director of Gibson Singapore. “I’m looking forward to working alongside this growing team as we continue building trusted partnerships with our clients and driving the business forward in the region.”

From his side Nick Ward said: “After 13 years of running Asia for Gibson, it feels like the right time to hand over to Owen Bolton to continue expanding and developing the office into the new and exciting areas Gibson is focusing on.” “I’m looking forward to continuing to build our dry cargo business and supporting the company in my role as a board member.”
