Yemen’s Houthi group on Sunday claimed responsibility for missile and drone attacks against a ship in the Gulf of Aden.

Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the group had targeted the ship MSC UNIFIC in the Gulf of Aden with ballistic missiles and drones in addition to attacking military targets of the “Israeli enemy,” as he said, in the Umm al-Rashrash area.

“The naval forces, UAV, and the missile forces of the Yemeni Armed Forces carried out a joint operation targeting the Israeli ship MSC UNIFIC in the Gulf of Aden, with a number of ballistic missiles and drones,” Houthi spokesperson of the Yemeni armed forces Yahya Saree said in a statement on social media platform X (former twitter).

Shipping Telegraph could not independently verify the reports. There was no official statement from the company.

The spokesman reiterated that the group will continue attacking ships until the “siege imposed on the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip is lifted.”

Meanwhile, the U.S. Central Command said its forces had destroyed two Iranian-backed Houthi uncrewed aerial vehicles over the Red Sea and one uncrewed surface vessel in the Red Sea, in the past 24 hours, according to a statement.

“It was determined these systems presented an imminent threat to U.S., coalition forces, and merchant vessels in the region,” U.S. Central Command added.

Last November, the Houthis began to launch ballistic missiles and drones targeting what they said were Israeli-linked ships transiting the Red Sea.
