The Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei has strongly condemned the airstrikes by the US and the UK on Yemen’s infrastructure.
In a statement on Monday, Esmaeil Baqaei denounced the “recurrent US and UK military aggression against Yemen.”
The spokesman described the military strikes by the US and the UK as a “blatant violation of the principles of international law and the UN Charter by two permanent members of the UN Security Council.”
Baqaei also urged the international community, international organizations, and Islamic countries to fulfill their legal and humanitarian duties to support the oppressed people of Yemen, as the spokesman said in his statement, and “oppose the military acts of aggression and destabilizing actions by the US and UK in West Asia.”
The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces on Monday, December 16 conducted an airstrike against a key command and control facility operated by Iran-backed Houthis within Houthi-controlled territory in Sana’a, Yemen.
“The targeted facility was a hub for coordinating Houthi operations, such as attacks against U.S. navy warships and merchant vessels in the Southern Red Sea and Gulf of Aden,” the U.S. Central Command noted in its statement.
Last month, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson condemned the new sanctions imposed by the European Union and the United Kingdom on several Iranian entities and individuals including the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL).
To remind, the UK targeted the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL), in the latest round of sanctions.
“Freedom of navigation and maritime trade are fundamental principles of international maritime law,” Baghaei affirmed, holding European parties responsible for breaching international law.
