MOL to integrate group ship management companies under single company

The Japanese shipping group Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has renamed its wholly owned subsidiary MOL LNG Ship Management to MOL Global Ship Management (MOLGSM) on July 22.

This transition is part of a comprehensive plan to integrate the group’s ship management companies and consolidate the ship management functions into MOL Global Ship Management, thereby enhancing safety operations.

MOLGSM plans to manage more than 200 vessels, including LNG carriers, dry bulkers, and tankers, serving fields where MOL Group has built up decades of experience and know-how.

“By integrating in-house ship management companies that have been divided by ship type, MOLGSM will be able to share best practices across different ship types and strengthening capabilities in adopting new technologies, such as environmentally friendly ship management,” MOL said in its statement.

IT systems will be integrated to standardize operations and employees can be flexibly assigned to growth areas, with the company offering diverse career paths.

“This initiative will contribute to the optimization of group-wide operations and improve overall competitiveness. MOLGSM will address various common challenges across different ship types, such as the management of environmentally friendly ships, as a unified organization,” the company added.
