Portugal police foil ‘narco’ semi-submersible transporting 300 bales of cocaine

Portuguese authorities have intercepted a ‘narco’ semi-submersible vessel on the high seas, seizing 300 ‘bales of cocaine’.

The seizure took place around 230 nautical miles from the Azores, says the Portuguese Criminal Investigation Police in a statement released Sunday.

The vessel, which came from Latin America and was crewed by four citizens, carried 300 bales of cocaine.

A press conference giving more details of this seizure has said that this operation occurred under extremely difficult and dangerous conditions, due to adverse weather conditions.

The operation, code-named Adamastor, was a joint effort by the Polícia Judiciária (PJ), Navy, and Air Force, with support from the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Joint Interagency Task Force South (JIATF-S), and the UK National Crime Agency (NCA).

The investigation continues under the auspices of the Polícia Judiciária (Portuguese Criminal Investigation Police), says the statement, in coordination with the various partner authorities of other countries.
