Singapore’s Energy Market Authority (EMA) said last week that a new fully Government-owned entity, Singapore GasCo Pte Ltd (Singapore GasCo), has been established to centralise the procurement and supply of natural gas to the power sector in Singapore.

The new entity is set up to centralise the procurement and supply of gas to power generation companies to reap economies of scale and negotiate for more favourable gas contracting terms, procure natural gas from diverse sources as well as enter into longer term gas contracts to provide more stable supply and prices, the EMA said in a statement.

To remind, the Energy Market Authority (EMA) is a statutory board under the Singapore ministry of trade and industry.

EMA also said Alan Heng has been appointed as Singapore GasCo’s chief executive officer.

Heng was the group chief executive officer of Pavilion Energy until March 2025. Previously, he held various senior management positions in planning, operations and marketing for 23 years at ExxonMobil.

Natural gas today accounts for around 95% of Singapore’s electricity generation.

In a move to boost the country’s energy transition towards net-zero by 2050, natural gas will continue to play a crucial role in safeguarding Singapore’s energy security.
