Spanish Civil Guard seizes 1,300 Kg cocaine onboard containership off Bay of Cadiz

Spanish Civil Guard (Guardia Civil) seized 1,300 kg of cocaine onboard an unnamed container ship off the Bay of Cadiz.

The container ship left the port of Vigo, intending to make its next stop in Malaga. It was located while it was 40 miles off the Bay of Cadiz on the Vigo-Malaga route.

The intervention began on the night of Wednesday, as investigators had a suspicion that there could be cocaine aboard.

The Guardia Civil discovered that the ship -while was at sea- had been boarded by stowaways (individuals who secretly boarded the ship) intending to remove the bales of cocaine and then transfer them to another vessel.

The vessel was escorted to the port of Cadiz, where a full search was launched.

A total of 38 bales of cocaine were found near the containers, with a total weight of approximately 1,300 kg. The drugs were placed on the upper deck, very close to the containers.

The Guardia Civil released a video on X (former twitter) of their armed forces searching the vessel. The reports said that due to the size of the vessel, it was taking time to complete the search.
