Sweden and Poland have carried out a joint rapid-response exercise known as Gotland Sentry in a move aimed at strengthening deterrence against potential attackers.

The Swedish Armed Forces said that Poland and Sweden have launched the Operation Gotland Sentry to “rapidly establish a comprehensive defence” in the Baltic region.

Officials added that the exercise was designed to test concrete defence plans and real readiness in the Baltic region.

“It also demonstrates our ability to act quickly and decisively should any form of threat arise,” they noted.

By carrying out this operation, Sweden and Poland are building a common deterrent against potential attackers, and improving their ability to react quickly, which ensures that the region is never left unattended.

“The operation tests our sharp defense plans for the Baltic Sea region, and it demonstrates our ability to act quickly and decisively if any kind of threat arises.”

“Poland and Sweden together for the security of the Baltic Sea,” the Polish deputy prime minister, head of the ministry of national defence, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz wrote on X on Monday morning. “We’re launching the SNEX Gotland Sentry, the first ever such joint action by Poland and Sweden.”

He went on to say that the training was a result of a Poland-Sweden defence agreement signed on September 2, which involved “joint operations on the Baltic and the development of cooperation in defence technologies.”
