President Donald J. Trump signed an executive order establishing the National Energy Dominance Council. The Council will be chaired by Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum and vice-chaired by Energy Secretary Chris Wright. Other members will come from the cabinet and other governmental agencies.

The order directed the council to advise the president on strategies to make America energy dominant “by improving the processes for permitting, production, generation, distribution, regulation, and transportation.”

That includes advising Mr. Trump on improving the processes of handling American energy and facilitating the cooperation between the federal government and domestic energy partners.

The White House noted that the “Biden-Harris Administration dramatically slowed the growth rate of American energy production and development.”

Developing American energy resources will enable the United States to reduce its reliance on foreign entities, including strategic adversaries.

As energy prices rose, the Biden Administration was reluctant to enforce American oil sanctions on rogue regimes, the White House explained, adding that it “allowed Iran to export over one million barrels of oil per day through lax enforcement (up from a low of approximately 70,000 under the Trump administration) and temporarily lifting oil sanctions altogether on the Maduro regime in Venezuela.”

On his first day in office, Mr. Trump declared a national energy emergency, calling for a “reliable, diversified, and affordable supply of energy to drive the nation’s manufacturing, transportation, agriculture, and defense industries.”

Donald Trump laid out recently a sweeping plan to maximise energy production. The actions underscore Trump’s commitment to increase U.S. energy production and remove regulatory barriers that may slow that down.

“America will be a manufacturing nation once again, and we have something that no other manufacturing nation will ever have: the largest amount of oil and gas of any country on Earth and we are going to use it,” Trump said, promising in parallel that he will bring prices down, and export American energy all over the world.

Analysts are skeptical that Trump’s moves – if they survive inevitable legal challenges – will increase US energy production, as the president previously promised.

Trump said the expansion of the nation’s energy infrastructure, from coast to coast, is an immediate and pressing priority for the protection of the United States’ national and economic security.

The new council will be granted sweeping authority to develop a national strategy that will help facilitate energy dominance “by cutting red tape, enhancing private sector investments, and focusing on innovation.”

“The United States’ insufficient energy production, transportation, refining, and generation constitutes an unusual and extraordinary threat to our nation’s economy, national security, and foreign policy,” Trump said.
