US Transportation Secretary nominee Duffy pledges support for Jones Act

The U.S. Senate has confirmed Sean Duffy as U.S. secretary of transportation in a 77-22 vote. At a US Senate Commerce Committee hearing few weeks ago, Sean Duffy, earned praise from Senators on both sides of the dais, citing his qualifications and history of public service.

Sean Duffy was approved with bipartisan support on a 77-22 vote in the Senate.

The U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas), chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation issued the following statement after the Senate voted to confirm Duffy, President Donald Trump’s nominee to be U.S. Secretary of Transportation.

“I am grateful the Senate has voted in support of Sean Duffy to lead the Department of Transportation. Throughout the confirmation process, Sean has displayed a passion for public service and a willingness to listen and learn to ensure that this vital department is operating at the highest level of safety and efficiency across all modes under its jurisdiction.

“I want to congratulate Sean and his family, and I look forward to working with him to advance innovation and safety on America’s roads, railroad tracks, skies, and waterways.”

The Shipbuilders Council of America (SCA), the national association representing the U.S. shipbuilding, maintenance, and repair industry, congratulated Secretary Duffy on being confirmed for Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation. US president Donald Trump announced on November 18 the nomination of the former Congressman Sean Duffy as the U.S. secretary of transportation.

As the father of nine incredible children, Sean Duffy knows “how important it is for families to be able to travel safely, and with peace of mind,” Trump commented in his post on Truth Social.

Trump in a statement praised Duffy as a “tremendous and well-liked public servant” and said he was “a respected voice and communicator in the Republican Conference” during his time in Congress.

“He will prioritize Excellence, Competence, Competitiveness and Beauty when rebuilding America’s highways, tunnels, bridges and airports. He will ensure our ports and dams serve our Economy without compromising our National Security, and he will make our skies safe again by eliminating DEI for pilots and air traffic controllers,” Trump added.
