CMB.TECH gains $20.4m from suezmax sale as fleet rejuvenation continues

The Belgium-based CMB.TECH NV has sealed a deal on August 25 to sell its 2010-built suezmax Sofia, 165,000-dwt, for a net sale price of $40.1m.

The sale will generate a capital gain of approximately $20.4m in the fourth quarter of 2025. Delivery to its new owner is expected in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Earlier this year, the company announced that it had sold three VLCCs, the 2012-built Iris (314,000 dwt), the 2010-built Hakone (302,624 dwt) and the 2010-built Hakata (302,550 dwt) as part of its fleet rejuvenation.

As it is reported, the sales generated a total capital gain of $96.7m. The vessel Iris has been delivered to its new owners on May 7 whilst the second vessel Hakone on July 8.

The third vessel Hakata will be delivered in the beginning of September 2025.

The VLCC Iris generated a capital gain of around $57.1m during the second quarter and the sales of Hakata and Hakone will generate a total capital gain of approx. $39.3m in the third quarter of 2025.

Following the merger with Golden Ocean Group Limited earlier this month, CMB.TECH owns and operates a combined diversified fleet of around 250 vessels, including dry bulk vessels, crude oil tankers, chemical tankers, container ships, offshore wind vessels and port vessels.

The fleet has a reported fair market value of approximately $11.1bn and an average age of 6.1 years.

The company stated that more than 80 vessels in the combined diversified fleet are hydrogen- and ammonia-ready.

To remind, CMB.TECH NV has completed the stock-for stock merger between Golden Ocean Group Limited and CMB.TECH Bermuda, a wholly-owned subsidiary of CMB.TECH, with CMB.TECH Bermuda Ltd. as the surviving company, and with CMB.TECH as the issuer of the merger consideration shares.

Meanwhile, the company reported changes in its supervisory board after the resign of Mr. Marc Saverys.

Mr. Marc Saverys has decided to resign as member and chairman of the supervisory board of CMB.TECH.

Saverys joined the supervisory board of CMB.TECH after the SGM of 23 March 2023 as a non-independent member.
