Finland’s Rederiaktiebolaget Eckerö has agreed with Rederi Ab Lillgaard to acquire Rederi Ab Fjärdvägen.
The company said in a Euronext-stock exchange filing that it has bought Rederi Ab Fjärdvägen from Rederi Ab Lillgaard.
As it is reported, the deal includes the company with all personnel and assets, including the Finnish-flagged ro-ro cargo M/S Fjärdvägen.
Rederi Ab Fjärdvägen operates the route Långnäs-Nådendal with M/S Fjärdvägen, the company Rederiaktiebolaget Eckerö said in its website. Rederi Ab Lillgaard has operated the route since 1994, and since 2014 through its subsidiary Rederi Ab Fjärdvägen.
“The Långnäs-Nådendal route fits perfectly into our strategy of providing ‘floating bridges’ on routes where sea transport is the natural and most sustainable solution. A connection between Åland and mainland Finland has in many ways been the missing link in our customer offering, a link that we can now add to our transport network,” said Eckerö Group’s CEO Björn Blomqvist.
The ownership of the company and the business are planned to be transferred to the new owner on August 18.
Rederiaktiebolaget Eckerö, founded on March 2, 1961, is the parent company of the Eckerö Group, which consists of four business areas.
The group operates passenger and car ferry traffic on the Åland Sea in Eckerö Linjen and on the Gulf of Finland in Eckerö Line and manages transport for the export industry between the Nordic countries and the continent in Eckerö Shipping.
Four ships in total are included in Eckerö Group’s fleet. The group also operates bus services on Åland in Williams Buss.
