Mariehamn-based roro shipowner Godby Shipping bought the roro vessel Transporter from Eckerö Shipping Ab Ltd (Mariehamn, Finland), marking a strategic step forward in the company’s fleet expansion.
The vessel, built in 1991, has a capacity of approximately 1250 lane meters and is ideally suited for transporting paper and a wide range of rolling cargo, including trailers, mafis, trucks, and heavy machinery.
The company didn’t disclose any financial details about the acquisition.
The privately owned shipping company said the vessel’s current crew will remain onboard, ensuring continuity of service for the customer DFDS.
The vessel is currently on time charter to DFDS in their liner trade between Fredrikstad, Halden, Norway, Zeebrugge, Belgium and Immingham, UK.
“We will take over the time charter with DFDS until end December 2025,” the shipowner said, adding that they will keep the name Transporter.
The delivery will take place within the trading area between 15 October and 22 November 2025. With this acquisition, the company now operates a fleet of eight vessels.
The roro market is strong, Godby Shipping said, and there are not that many roro vessels in this size available. “We strongly believe there will be a future demand for roro vessels in the smaller size segment,” it added.
