Sweden´s Gotlandsbolaget has previously informed about the intention to sell its shares in the tankers Wisby Atlantic and Wisby Pacific, of which the group owned 50%. An agreement for the sale of the vessels for a total of USD 85 million has now been concluded with a buyer. After delivery, Gotlandsbolaget will have sold all tankers.

The tankers Wisby Atlantic and Wisby Pacific have been owned 50% each by the Gotlandsbolaget Group and Wisby Tankers. The vessels were built in 2017 in Guangzhou, China.

Since delivery from the shipyard, the vessels have been leased to an external party under longer contracts. Now Gotlandsbolaget and Wisby Tankers have sold the vessels for a total of USD 85 million.

“It is a milestone for Gotlandsbolaget that we have now sold our last holdings in tankers. We have been involved in tank since the early 1990s and in 2010 Gotland Tankers was founded. We now continue to focus on infrastructure and industrial shipping, and the sale further strengthens the ability to invest in next-generation ships,” says Håkan Johansson, CEO of Gotlandsbolaget.

In 2021, the Gotland Horizon ship concept was launched and in 2022, the Gotland Horizon X, the world’s first large-scale catamaran that can be powered by hydrogen, was presented. The propulsion in both ships is based on gas turbines, which can be operated with several types of fossil-free fuels, such as hydrogen, methanol, e-methanol or biogas (LBG). The goal is for at least one of the new ships to be in operation by 2030.
