Regional Container Lines Public Company Limited held on March 13 a board directors’ meeting according to which its wholly owned subsidiary in Singapore, Regional Container Lines Pte. Ltd. (RCS), will purchase two newly built 11,000 teu vessels and two newly built 4,400 teu vessels.

The company revealed in a stock exchange filing that two container vessels with a capacity of 11,000 TEUs are expected to be delivered by the latter of 2027.

Meanwhile, two container vessels with a capacity of 4,400 TEUs are expected to be delivered by the latter of 2027 and the beginning of 2028, respectively.

The Thai-based container shipping line RCL, listed in the Thailand Stock Exchange, didn’t disclose the name of the shipbuilders due to commercial reasons, but it said that the contractual parties are “trusted and well-known shipyards in China.”

As far as the value of the assets to be purchased, the company said that the purchase price of each vessel, regarding the two 11,000 teu vessels, shall not exceed $125m or approximately Baht 4,259m.

The purchase price of each vessel regarding the two newly built 4,400 teu vessels is $59.7m or approximately Baht 2,034m.

“The additional orders of 11,000 TEUs and 4,400 TEUs vessels align with the company’s strategy to enhance its fleet, expand operations into new markets, and strengthen its existing network. This initiative not only enhances operational efficiency but also supports the long-term time charter-out (TC-Out) market, which is expected to remain in high demand,” RCL said in a stock exchange filing.

“This investment serves as a foundation for the company’s sustainable growth in the future,” reads the company’s statement.
