Berge Rederi Future AS have contracted 1+1 13000-dwt eco design bulk/general cargo carrier newbuildings at Jiangsu Soho Heavy Marine Co. Ltd. to MDC 1329 design.
Bergen-based ship design and marine engineering provider Marine design and consulting (MDC) has announced the shipbuilding and design contract for the newbuildings, mentioning that they will be “highly efficient self-loading/discharging type bulk/general cargo vessels.”
Norway’s MDC said in its release that the vessel will be arranged with a large battery plant and hybrid propulsion, allowing for larger sailing distance with electric powering and zero emissions.
The ships will also be fitted with two rotorsails, whilst cargo operations will be powered electrically.
The newbuildings, hull nos. SH009 and SH010 Soho HMI Co. Ltd., are scheduled to be delivered end of 2026.
The design has been developed in close cooperation between Berge Rederi AS and MDC.
