The Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has announced that on December 3 at their shipyard in Ancona have delivered the newbuild cruise ship ‘Viking Vela’.

She is the first of a new series of cruise ships that Fincantieri is building for the Swiss headquartered cruise line Viking.

This newbuild unit is placed in the small cruise ship segment with a gross tonnage of about 54,300 tons. Furthermore, it is equipped with 499 cabins and is able to accommodate 998 passengers on board.

The ‘Viking Vela’ is the 13th ship delivered to Viking by Fincantieri Group, including the two expedition cruise vessels built by the Norwegian subsidiary Vard.

The contracts and options agreements signed in the last months and the ships ordered to date between Fincantieri and Viking involve 26 ships.
