Amsterdam-headquartered infrastructure equity fund manager CVC DIF has finalized the acquisition of a majority stake in Spanish shipyard Cernaval.
The transaction amount has not been disclosed.
Cernaval is a Spanish shipyard specialised in the repair, maintenance and conversion of commercial vessels, based in Campamento, San Roque, within the Port of Algeciras.
The business holds a long-term concession at the Port of Algeciras Bay, a major maritime hub on the Strait of Gibraltar, through which more than 120,000 vessels pass each year.
Cernaval serves shipowners and maritime operators from its shipyard in the Algeciras Bay. Its facilities include a 400-metre dry dock, a 230-metre floating dock, quays and workshops.
These facilities enable the handling of both routine maintenance and complex repairs on large vessels.
Founded over 30 years ago, Cernaval employs approximately 275 people annually and handled 68 vessels in 2025.
The press release highlights that CVC DIF will work with Cernaval’s management team to develop the business further through investment in the shipyard and its capabilities.
CVC DIF will focus on modernising the yard, expanding its capabilities and improving commercial and operational processes. Further digitalisation and energy-efficiency measures are also planned.
“The partnership with CVC DIF opens a new chapter to keep improving our facilities, our processes and our customer service,” stated Mario López, founder of Cernaval, noting that he will continue to support the company.
