Finland’s Deltamarin, a ship design, offshore engineering, and construction support company, has sealed a deal with China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Jiangsu) Co. for the design and engineering of Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s upsized shaper class vessels, according to the company’s release.

The agreement, announced on February 25, includes six of the 14 vessels currently on order with Jinling Shipyard. The capacity of each vessel will be increased from 9,300 CEUs to approximately 12,100 CEUs.

Deltamarin will provide the shipyard with design services, covering both basic and detail design, with a focus on optimizing fuel efficiency, safety and sustainability.

The upsized vessels will feature dual-fuel engines capable of operating on methanol, a key feature of the shaper-class models.

They will also feature enhanced ramp strength and high-and-heavy cargo capacity with the aim to meet the future needs of global logistics.

The first Shaper class vessels are scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2026, with the larger, upsized versions due for delivery in late 2027.

“This new contract extends our ongoing collaboration with Wallenius Wilhelmsen on the shaper class, allowing us to further enhance the operational performance of the six upsized units,” Deltamarin Group said in its statement.
