Norway’s offshore wind service specialist Edda Wind has taken delivery on November 14 of the commissioning service operational vessel (CSOV) “Vestri Enabler” from Spanish based Gondan Shipbuilders.
After her delivery, the traditional naming ceremony took place on Friday the 15th of November in Gijón, Spain, where the CSOV was named by the Lady Sponsor Danielle Baron, who is the Global Head of Energy & Real Assets, Crédit Agricole CIB.
The name Vestri comes from Nordic mythology and represents one of the four characters (Sudri, Nordri, Vestri and Austri) holding up the sky after it was made by the Gods from the skull of Ymir.
The “Vestri Enabler” is the third vessel in a series of four sister vessels from Gondan and follows “Nordri Enabler” and “Sudri Enabler” which were delivered in September 2023 and July 2024 respectively.
Edda Wind mentions that “Vestri Enabler” will commence operation immediately following testing and mobilisation in the UK on a contract with a duration of four months plus options.
The “Vestri Enabler” is prepared for running emission-free operations with a hydrogen-based propulsion system (LOHC), and the vessel will serve as mother vessel for wind turbine technicians as they perform commissioning and maintenance work on offshore wind turbines.
The CSOV is 88.3 in length and can accommodate up to 120 persons in total, as Edda Wind informs.
Kenneth Walland, CEO in Edda Wind, said: “I want to thank everyone contributing to making this day so special. Thank you to Gondan Shipbuilders for their effort in building this vessel, and same to all others who have worked on this project. Also, a big thank you to Danielle Baron for doing us the honour of being the Lady Sponsor.”
