Sanmar Shipyard, located in Tuzla Bay, Istanbul, has launched Latin American’s first electric tug. After her launching, the next step is the sea trials to inspect and verify the static behavior and operating performance of the tug, designed by Canadian-based Robert Allan Ltd.

As per service agreement signed in January this year between the two Chilian companies Empresa Nacional del Petróleo (Enap) and towage company SAAM, the tug is scheduled to arrive in Chile during the first half of 2025.

SAAM informs that the vessel will operate in Puerto Chacabuco, in the Chilean Aysén Region, providing berthing and unberthing services.

The newbuild electric tug measures 25 meters in length and it is 13 meters wide (beam). Furthermore, the tug is boasting a maximum bollard pull of over 70 metric tons.
