Danish shipbuilder Hvide Sande Shipyard has been awarded the contract for the newbuild number-159, an electric hybrid ferry for Tjörns Hamnar AB in Sweden, according to a social media statement by the shipyard.
This new ordered ferry will be the tenth newbuilding with advanced electric/hybrid technology Hvide Sande Shipyard is building and she is scheduled to be launched in the fall of 2025.
The ferry will be designed by the Swedish ship designer FKAB Marine Design, and it will replace the “Hakefjord” ferry.
In the future the ship will serve the routes between four islands northwest of Göteborg in Sweden.
As a fun fact the shipbuilder mentions that the “Hakefjord” ferry also was built at Hvide Sande Shipyard back in the 1990s, and back then it was the first newbuilding the current Group CEO got to work on during his apprenticeship time.
