Danish-based Lauritzen NexGen Shipping, owned by the commercial foundation Lauritzen Fonden, has signed yesterday firm contracts for three 81,200 dwt methanol dual-fuel kamsarmax bulk carriers to be built by Tsuneishi shipbuilding in Japan, with expected delivery in 2024-2025.
Lauritzen NexGen Shipping is a company which J. Lauritzen and Lauritzen Bulkers A/S will use as a platform for further investments in zero carbon emission and future-proof assets for the shipping industry.
The newly ordered kamsarmaxes “will be among the very first zero emission capable bulk carriers in the world,” as the company notes, and will be fully owned by Lauritzen NexGen Shipping.
Lauritzen NexGen Shipping also pointed out that the vessels are ordered in cooperation with one of the largest drybulk charterers Cargill, who will be operating the vessels for a minimum period of seven years.
