Nordic Yards Group seals €110m shipbuilding deal with Belgium’s DAB Vloot

Nordic Yards Group, a joint venture between Estonian shipbuilding company Baltic Workboats (BWB) and Uudenkaupungin Työvene, has signed a €110m shipbuilding contract with the Belgian government.

Nordic Yards Group sealed the deal with the Belgian state enterprise DAB Vloot with the aim to design and build an 80-meter pilot station vessel.

Uusikaupunki-based Työvene, a Finnish shipbuilding company and part of Summa Defence Ltd said in a social media post on LinkedIn that the price of one vessel is €54.4m whilst the deal comes with an option for a second vessel.

Specifically, the construction period -which will last 42-months- includes an option for a second equivalent vessel.

The total transaction volume is up to €110m, according to shipbuilder Työvene.

Juha Granqvist, Työvene CEO, said: “Securing this tender alongside Baltic Workboats is a significant achievement that highlights the value of our strong partnership. With over 60 years of combined expertise and nearly 500 specialized vessels built, we have established a robust foundation for undertaking projects of this scale.”

The period needed to build the first vessel is 42 months, of which 12 months are for the design of the project.

Equipped with a diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system, the pilot station vessel will operate in the North Sea.

The vessel designed with readiness to transition to methanol fuel in the future will be able to operate under all weather conditions.

The ship can operate at full functionality in wave heights of up to 4 meters, Työvene said in a statement on LinkedIn, adding that it can accommodate 20 crew members and 12 pilots.

Baltic Workboats announced on January 30, 2023, the establishment of the joint shipbuilding company Nordic Yards Group. The parties at the time agreed neither to disclose the price nor any other terms of the transaction.
