Mv Abelina Wagenborg launching

The Netherlands based shipowner Royal Wagenborg was on Thursday officially naming and launching the Mv Abelina Wagenborg at local shipyard Royal Niestern Sander, being the first vessel of the new EasyMax 2.0 generation.

The Mv Abelina Wagenborg is the seventh EasyMax vessel in the Wagenborg fleet, but the first of a new generation. EasyMax 2.0 builds on the operational experience gained with the previous vessels and takes efficiency another step forward.

The vessel ranks number one on the Energy Efficiency Design Index and has been prepared for using alternative fuels including methanol, ammonia and LNG. This fuel flexibility is important in a shipping market in transition. Rather than betting on one single solution, the vessel has been designed to provide flexibility as technologies, fuels and market requirements continue to develop.

The EasyMax story is also a story about the strength of the maritime cluster in the Northern Netherlands. The vessel was built at Niestern Sander through close cooperation between Wagenborg, designers, suppliers, installers, shipyards and other co-makers throughout the regional maritime supply chain.

The name Abelina Wagenborg refers to Wagenborg’s beginnings the company disclose. Abelina was the wife of founder Egbert Wagenborg. Together they laid the foundations for what would eventually become Royal Wagenborg. When the first EasyMax was named in 2017, it received the name Egbert Wagenborg. With the first EasyMax 2.0, the name Abelina now joins his. Two vessels, two names, one story of entrepreneurship, cooperation and looking ahead.

The vessel was officially named by Godmothers Jacqueline Vuursteen, Jeanette Wagenborg and Aletta Wagenborg before launching into the water.
