Turkey’s Aygaz places VLGC order at HD Hyundai Samho

Aygaz is strengthening its maritime transport fleet in line with its strategic goals. Istanbul-based Aygaz has signed a shipbuilding agreement with South Korean shipyard HD Hyundai Samho Co., Ltd for the construction of a dual-fuel very large gas carrier (VLGC).

The contract was signed on January 15 for the construction of an VLGC (very large gas carrier) size and dual fuel vessel.

The 93,000 cbm class LPG carrier is expected to be delivered in the second quarter of 2028. The vessel is purchased for use in LPG trading and transportation.

The 52.000-ton dual fuel (LPG/Fuel Oil) very large gas carrier (VLGC) will align with the broader decarbonization trends in global maritime transport.

The new VLGC will join the company’s existing fleet consisting of Beykoz, Beylerbeyi, Kuzguncuk, and Bebek in 2028.

“Thanks to dual fuel technology, our vessel will contribute to a lower-emission and more efficient transportation infrastructure,” Aygaz general manager Melih Poyraz said.

Established in 1961, Aygaz is an only fully integrated LPG company in Türkiye operating in all LPG processes, including procurement, storage and filling, as well as production and the sale of LPG-operated devices.
