Wuhu Shipyard won orders from German group for MPP heavy lift vessels

China’s Wuhu Shipyard has inked a deal with the German integrated maritime group, Nordic Hamburg Group, and its partners for the construction of five units.

The vessels involved are three plus two 13,300-dwt multi-purpose heavy lift vessels.

The shipyard describes the vessels as ‘versatile workhorses of the sea,’ integrating multiple functionalities.

They will feature a hatch coverless design, offering a substantial cargo hold capacity of approximately 26,500 cubic meters and a combined lifting capability of 500 tons.

Additionally, the units -through multiple technologies- will include an SCR system and optimized hull form for fuel reduction in consumption. Equipped for navigation in ice conditions, the units are also integrated with intelligent control systems and safety designs.

According to Wuhu Shipyard, the Hamburg-headquartered Nordic Hamburg Group operates across five major global shipping hubs and manages a diversified fleet of 86 modern vessels.

“The successful collaboration with the Nordic Hamburg Group and its partners marks another major breakthrough for Wuhu Shipyard in the international market for high-end, multi-functional vessel construction,” reads the Wuhu Shipyard statement.

In the shipyard’s portfolio are included a series of projects, including a 5800-dwt multi-purpose vessel, a 7000-dwt roro heavy lift vessel, a 7800-dwt multi-purpose vessel, and a 14600-dwt heavy lift vessel.
