Chinese shipbuilder Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS), part of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), has on May 29 signed a newbuilding contract with Singapore-based X-Press Feeders for the construction of four methanol-ready 11,000 TEU container feeder vessels.
The ordered vessels are a new generation of green and environmentally friendly medium-sized container ships independently developed and designed by SWS.
These vessels are based on a conventional dual-fuel power design and have a methanol fuel power system, as the shipbuilders informs.
The ordered container feeder vessels can carry 11,000 TEU containers and are equipped with scrubbers, windshields, and multiple energy-saving and drag reduction solutions, significantly optimizing speed, saving fuel, and reducing carbon emissions.
