On Sunday morning, a fire broke out aboard motor tanker Sea Horse at alpha anchorage area, Batangas.
The Philippine coast guard was informed that there was fire at sea at waters around Batangas Anchorage Area.
The PCG station got in touch with local disaster-assistance and firefighting protection office to prepare to respond to the blaze, and it launched a search and rescue operation for survivors.
Meanwhile, three tugboats promptly assisted the stranded ship with firefighting capability.
PCG personnel and local firefighters joined the effort, and the fire was declared out just after 1100 hours.
A 26 years old, resident of Batangas City was rescued and brought to a hospital for treatment. The victim suffered 30% to 40% degree of burn, according to the PCG. The said victim was delivered to the operating room for proper medication.
There was one recorded fatality, and investigation is still being done to identify the corpse, the Philippine coast guard said.
“Likewise, another cadaver was retrieved at forward part of the vessel and turned over to the Philippine National Police Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO). The lifeless body was also brought to Sol Memorial Homes Batangas, Barangay Natunuan Roas, San Pascual, Batangas for proper disposition,” said the Philippines coast guard on Sunday.
An investigation into the cause of the casualty is under way.
