Denmark’s tanker owner Rederiet M.H. Simonsen signed a deal with Ada Shipyard for the construction of two tankers.

The vessels ordered are two diesel-electric polar classed 3500mt tankers. The company in a short post on social media announced the news mentioning: “Happy to share the news that we have signed with Ada Shipyard for the construction of two state-of-the-art diesel-electric polar classed 3500mt tankers. Thanks to everybody who has helped us on this journey. Let’s break some ice.”

Founded in 1931, Rederiet M.H. Simonsen is a family-owned shipping company owning a number of tankers from about 2.000-dwt to 7.000-dwt. Rederiet M.H. Simonsen was founded by Martin Hjorth Simonsen and is today managed by his son Lars Hjorth Simonsen.

The company currently operates 12 vessels. The tankers are primarily engaged in the European small tanker market.

The vessels Orasila (2006-built, Danish-flagged) and occasionally Oratank (2008-built, Danish-flagged) are trading with CPP in Greenland.
