Erik Hånell has decided to step down from Stena Bulk after 14 years as president and chief executive officer of the tanker owner.
He will be succeeded in the role on December 1 by Philip Eriksson, who is currently the managing director of GSB Tankers.
Stena Bulk said in a LinkedIn post that Mr Hånell navigated the business through some of the most challenging and volatile periods the tanker market has seen, with a consistent steady hand and a clear sense of where the company needed to be.
The company said the business he hands over in December is “stronger and better positioned for the future than at any point in its history.”
Mr Hånell joined Stena in 1999 and has given 27 years of service to the organisation. He will continue to serve on the board of Stena Bulk.
Stena Bulk said Eriksson brings extensive international shipping and leadership experience. He currently serves as the managing director of GSB Tankers in Singapore and previously held the role of global head at Austen Maritime Services.
“Earlier in his career at Stena AB, he worked with strategy, M&A and financial planning for the Group overall,” the statement of Stena Bulk reads.
The company, which counts around 60 ships, added that Philip’s solid commercial, operational and strategic experience provides a strong foundation for leading Stena Bulk into its next phase.
