The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) responded to an allision that resulted to fire onboard in the vicinity waters of Navotas City in the midst of Tropical Storm “Enteng” on September 2.
The allision involved the M/V Kamilla, a training ship anchored at the vicinity waters of Navotas anchorage area and the LCT GT Express.
“A ship caught fire after a collision with another vessel in the midst of Tropical Storm Enteng,” said the Philippine Coast Guard on Monday, September 2. Based on the PCG’s investigation, both ships were initially anchored when the storm hit.
PCG reported that based on the investigation, M/V Kamilla, a training ship anchored at the vicinity waters of Navotas anchorage area, was hit by LCT GT Express and damaged the vessel’s bridge. The PCG received the report at around 7:28 a.m.
The Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Navotas said LCT GT Express was also anchored in the said vicinity waters.
According to an initial investigation, it was swept away by strong current, causing it to hit M/V Kamilla.
“The PCG tried to deploy a floating asset to rescue the crew but failed to do so due to strong current and unfavorable weather conditions,” the coast guard said in its official page in the social media.
Fire onboard MV Kamilla was reported at around 9:19 am, whilst MV Kamilla’s owner informed the PCG at around 10:50 am that the crew already abandoned the distressed vessel.
Eight minutes later, MTUG Phil Leyte reported they rescued 17 of the 18 crew and brought them to the CGSS Navotas at around 11:15 am. BFP Navotas medical team provided medical assistance to the rescued individuals, the PCG said.
“The last crew was rescued at Barangay Sipac-Almacen. He is now at the Navotas City Hospital for medical treatment,” the coast guard added.
