The Sailing Cargo Vessel “Anemos”, which freight transport company TransOceanic Wind Transport (TOWT) describes as the world’s largest (principally) sailing cargo ship, has set sail last Tuesday August 13 at around 20:00 local time, and is currently making her way under sail to New York.
As it is reported by TOWT, the vessel will make her maiden voyage to New York in just a few days time.
The news came to light by TOWT and by the French shipbuilder of “Anemos” Piriou. “After over two years of construction, we are clear to sail on board our first modern sailing cargo ship Anemos, thanks to Piriou”, said Piriou.
The sailing cargo ship, SV “Anemos”, using high-performance sailing technology is the first of a fleet of eight following sisterships.
The small ship took two years to build, and it draws on advanced sail technology from ocean racing.
“After a historic and efficient loading in LeHavre, and a good passage out the Channel sailing down easterlies, we made the decision to stop over at the shipyard in Concarneau for the usual fine-tuning of a new vessel,” said TOWT in its social media post.
