Great Lakes operating CSL Welland, part of the Canadian CSL Group Inc., has announced that again this lakes season is running on B100 biodiesel, marking the return of its biofuel program.
CSL Welland will team up with Canada Clean Fuels Inc to power eight of its ships with North American-sourced B100 biodiesel, derived from waste plant material.
The Great Lakes and St. Lawrence suitable vessels are Mv “CSL Laurentien”, Mv “Baie Comeau”, Mv “Rt. Hon Paul J. Martin”, Mv “Spruceglen”, Mv “CSL St-Laurent”, Mv “CSL Assiniboine”, Mv “CSL Welland” and Mv “Whitefish Bay”.
Since 2019 CSL Welland have proven the effectiveness of biofuel in decarbonizing marine transportation, with the potential to reduce over 80% less GHGs from well to wake.
“Biofuel is a seamless drop-in fuel option for vessels, requiring no retrofitting or significant modifications to ships or infrastructure and one way it can contribute to sustainable shipping and a greener future for all,” reads the CSL Group statement in the social media.
