A bulk carrier was struck by an unknown projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, according to a late report received by the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).
The incident was reported to UKMTO by a third party and occurred on August 15 at around 2200 UTC. The impact caused damage to the starboard side of the vessel and resulted in a crew casualty.
There was no reported environmental impact, and authorities are investigating the incident.
UKMTO has advised vessels to transit the Strait of Hormuz with caution and report any suspicious activity.
UKMTO also received a report on Tuesday that a vessel was struck by an unknown projectile while transiting outbound in the Strait of Hormuz, causing engine room damage and a crew casualty, with the remaining crew being assisted by the Omani Coast Guard.
No environmental impact has been reported and authorities are investigating.
‘No ongoing dialogue with Iran to end the war,’ says Trump
US president Donald Trump said Tuesday that there is no ongoing dialogue with Iran to end the war, and no discussions scheduled, adding that the Strait of Hormuz has been fully de-mined and reopened.
“There are no talks or conversations going on, or scheduled, with the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Naval Blockade remains in full force and effect,” Trump posted on Truth Social.
“The Hormuz Strait is open and operating. All water mines have been removed or detonated.”
Turkish foreign minister Hakan Fidan held a telephone conversation on Monday with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi during which they consulted and exchanged views on bilateral relations and regional developments.
The Iranian foreign minister, while explaining the latest status of Iran’s bilateral talks with Oman regarding the determination of a suitable path for the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, emphasized his country’s determination to continue this process.
The two sides reviewed the latest regional developments and ongoing diplomatic processes, and discussed the necessity of continuing political and diplomatic efforts to manage the situation, prevent the escalation of tensions, and strengthen regional stability and security.
More than 60 ships redirected by US naval blockade of Iran
The US military has said it has now dealt with almost 70 ships trying to pass through its naval blockade of Iran.
As of Aug. 17, 64 commercial vessels have been redirected by US forces, US Central Command said.
It also said it had also disabled three ships and boarded two others.
