Greek ferry operator Aegean Sea Lines has announced that the ro-ro/passenger ship Anemos is leaving the company’s fleet and it will continue its operations under new ownership.

“With a sense of responsibility and after careful evaluation of all data, the difficult decision was made for the Anemos to leave the Aegean Sea Lines fleet and continue its course under a new ownership status,” the company notes.

In its announcement, the company points out that Anemos was acquired in 2023 with the aim of contributing to the service of the Western Cyclades, offering reliable and quality ferry connections for the residents, professionals and visitors of the islands.

The company emphasizes that during its operation, the ship consistently served the routes of the islands, winter and summer, even under difficult weather conditions, with the absolute priority being the safety of passengers, crew and ship.

However, the ferry owner said the conditions that have developed on the routes of the Western Cyclades, in the context of the wider developments affecting the sector, made it unrealistic to continue this effort under the terms and goals with which it had started.

The ship has officially left Aegean Sea Lines and will continue its service under new ownership, ensuring that the vessel remains active in Greek waters while closing a notable chapter in Aegean Sea Lines’ operations.

“The Eugenides Group, the management and the employees of Aegean Sea Lines would like to thank the residents of the Western Cyclades, the passengers, the partners, the local authorities and all those who supported the presence and operation of the ship during this route,” the statement of the company read.

Special mention is made by the company to the masters, officers and crew members of Anemos for the dedication they showed throughout the operation of the ship, often under demanding conditions.
