The Swedish Coast Guard (Kystbevakningen) states in an update, that during Wednesday morning the ferry “Marco Polo” was towed off the ground where she has stayed since Sunday 22nd October.
Once afloat she was towed by the salvage company to a nearby anchorage, where the salvage company then carried out new investigations in order to establish the ship’s condition.
The oil spill during the towing operation yesterday was less than feared by all parties, but the Swedish Coast Guard notes that they had several units on site during Wednesday and cleaned up the small amount of oil found at sea.
The salvage company has notified the Swedish Coast Guard and the Swedish Transport Agency, that its intention is this morning to tow the Marco Polo into Stillerydshamnen in Karlshamn, with the towage of the ferry planned to begin at 08:00 and expected to last until lunchtime.
